Melia volkensii (Mukau) is a resilient dryland hardwood species native to the ASAL regions of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, and Embu. Known as the African mahogany, it produces exceptionally high-quality timber while thriving in semi-arid conditions. The tree integrates seamlessly into farming systems, as it can be intercropped with food crops, serves as a natural windbreak, and improves soil cover.
Our Melia Tree Project focuses on providing quality seedlings and seeds to farmers across Machakos County and throughout Kenya. By planting Mukau, farmers not only contribute to climate change mitigation but also create a long-term income source through the sale of its valuable hardwood. This dual benefit—economic return and environmental protection—makes Melia an excellent choice for sustainable farming.
To reach more farmers, we also provide convenient access through our farmers community and marketplace, with delivery available nationwide. The improved Melia seedlings we supply grow faster, straighter, and stronger, ensuring better yields and higher market value. With continuous improvement, we remain committed to offering top-quality planting materials that set a new standard in tree farming.
This initiative supports sustainable forestry while empowering smallholder farmers to build resilient livelihoods.
